Does Naked Sword deliver what it promises on the outside?

Nakedsword's very sparkly opening webpages announce: "Watching movies is easy! Choose from over 4,000 titles. Choose pay-per-view or membership".

Now let's pick this apart. Pay-per-view movie sites don't require a membership fee of any kind. Any stranger can just surf right into a pay-per-view site and start the meter running. I am just pointing out that the ability to pay-per-view video streams when you are paying a monthly membership is NOT a membership privilege. Pay-per-view is free to the general public.

What we want to know is what we get (included price-fix) for our monthly membership. Here's how:

Select "How This Works" on the entry page, so that you get the side frame. Then pick "Membership Titles" from the side frame and you can see what movies you can watch at the buffet table. I counted 60 pages of 5 titles per page, equating to about 300 movies which you can watch for your monthly membership.

Another way to do it is pick the "SORT BY" drop-down and select "Membership Titles". Comes out he same, about 300 titles. That's not 4000!

What's good about Naked Sword? What needs improvement?

Naked Sword is pretty expensive, but it is an opportunity to see around 300 full-length movies included in your membership, which brings a good amount of diversity to the content. You will probably like at least a few of the movies. But, remember that PPV is not a membership privilege! It costs even more.

Here's the bad news. Almost all of the membership movies play in RealPlayer (which is OK), but I couldn't get a single one of them to stream. The RP would launch, then just hang. I could get around this, by laboriously downloading each movie (remember these are full length LONG movies) and play them then. yawn!

I was able to find a scant few MediaPlayer movies in the membership section, but these are protected by the dreaded "Digital Rights Management" (oh, horror!), so that even if you download the movies, you will not be able to replay them from your own hard drive after your membership lapses. Pooh!

How is Naked Sword unique?

Naked Sword has very nicely designed webpages, which almost give you the sensation that you're watching Gay HBO or something on your computer.

I found a good portion of the movies which are offered to members to be older, 1980-1990's vintage where the crispness of transfer just isn't there. I was familiar with many of the titles, as I had rented them at my local video store, pre-internet.

What do paying users recieve for their money?

For $34.95, you can watch 300 movies for 15 days, for $39.95 30 days, with the constraints I mentioned above. That's a little over 10 cents a movie.

Now for the PPV part of my review, and I'm gonna be cruel. You don't need membership to use the PPV side of NakedSword. The only way you can PPV at Naked Sword is a 48 hour stream for $12.95. There are no pay-per-minute options, just $12.95 per movie or not.

I don't usually plug other sites, but AEBN.com has a vast collection of gay movies at pay-per-minute prices that you can click rapidly through to see if you like each movie or not (hey, a lot of movies are duds). It may only take you several minutes to click through an indexed movie. Then you are only charged for the several minutes, not $12.95 per movie.
