Does Chisel deliver what it promises on the outside?

Chisel features manly men. No skinny twinks here except in some of the chat rooms. The headlines blast "gay porn, for gay men, by gay men" and "hard dick energy."

I would hope that the proud gay men operating this site would take a more active interest in it. The inside of the site does not live up to the look and feel of the opening page. The preview tour is very limited.

What's good about Chisel? What needs improvement?

The inside, while not as up-to-date in appearance as the opening screen, was easy to navigate. The first page has both links and tabs by category: live shows, photos, movies, etc. Note that some of the links take you to content requiring its own membership fee.

Photo sets are divided into categories. Clicking a category opens a drop down of page numbers. Clicking a page opens a page with a column of thumbnails on the left side and a large image of one of the thumbnails. Content appears to be licensed from several sources. The quality varied but was generally good. There is no slide show option.

Video content is highly compressed. This is where Chisel really disappoints. The native viewing size is small and becomes too pixilated to watch in full screen. The site was born before broadband and has not been updated to take advantage of the tremendous advances in streaming video technology.

The movies tab opens a page that has links to both movies and chat rooms operated by other providers. Several of the links were dead, opening up a page of code instead of content. Of the links that were active, a few required their own membership to view content.

Mac users should note that the site states that it works best with IE4 or Netscape. Mozilla Firefox is my preferred browser and it worked fine for most of the content. The problem areas were in Java video content, which I could only view with IE.

How is Chisel unique?

While Chisel does produce some exclusive content, there is not enough to make it a must have membership. The "newest" content also appears to be several years old as of this mid 2006 review. The pornstar profile of Cole Tucker on the opening page is dated 1998.

What do paying users recieve for their money?

Chisel has not kept current with web technology. The site may have been worth its premium membership dues in the late 90's, but today it is simply way overpriced.

The operators are not unique in this regard. Most sites I see are around $30 per month regardless of what is inside. It pays to read reviews.
