Does Boy Ride deliver what it promises on the outside?
I have been stopping around Boyride on and off for years now, always hopeful that they would get their act together. The site was largely out of commission for months lately, as they did their big "revamp" and I think they took the site a couple of steps backward in the process.
Boyride has always delivered a sort of mediocre content; the guys were sort of hot but maybe a little too surfboard queenie; the videos always had a kind of cheap quality to them; the site navigation was minimal; but mostly, the updates came a little too far apart to keep a regular subscriber interested.
About the only saving grace that I saw was their addition of independent (Portland, Oregon) producer: "Donovan's Dudes" in 2006, which I gobbled up eagerly. The content from DD was simple, str8forward, and crisp. Sadly, Boyride had dropped DD and the producer is spinning off DD into a site of its own.
My major gripe is the site's transition to FLASH Player for delivery of ALL of its photo and video content (why?). The FLASH windows have no sizing control and no ability whatsoever to download to our HDs. It is now a situation where you can only view the content while logged into the site (due to Flash) - and the delivery is lousy at that.
What's good about Boy Ride? What needs improvement?
There have, from time to time, been some hot guys on Boyride - most notably Donovan's Dudes which is now gone.
What needs improvement FIRST AND FOREMOST is the re-instatement of downloadable photos and videos. FLASH Player is OK for grainy Youtube diddies or news broadcasts, but not for our precious porn! The embedded video FLASH Player cannot be taken to fullscreen and when you do they come out distorted. (did they even test this thing?)
Other gripes include: no dating of content or update log, the horrendous search feature, the constant "JOIN" messages even when you are logged in as a member, a number of the navigation features are non-operable, and the picture viewer is a left-frame with thumbnails that only enlarge enough to fit into a right-frame embedded window (also FLASH, why?).
How is Boy Ride unique?
I think I have lost faith that Boyride can pull itself out of its quagmire as a second rate site.
What do paying users recieve for their money?
For a "pretty rich" $39.95 non-recurring monthly, you'll get 144 sets, either solo or action - some video only, some video with photo galleries; ALL content now delivered in non-downloadable, non-enlargeable, embedded FLASH Player windows. This has taken the quality factor down to a "feeder site" quality.
There is also a sorry lack of an update audit trail, so you can't be sure at what pace you will get new content or it has been added in the past. For the record, I have found Boyride's update schedule unpredictable and "spotty" in the past.

The front page promises the hottest young men of southern California, while each video starts with a sequence that promises sufers, skaters, and sex. And it's true that there are plenty of good looking surfer and skater boys here -- it's just that the website itself doesn't really do them justice. Read full review

Boyride.com promises the hottest young men of Southern California, which as always is a matter of personal taste, but if you like your twinks to have that indie, skater-surfer look then you won’t be disappointed with this site, however yet again this is another site badly let down by it video delivery. Boyride recently received an updated look and new technology that greatly improves the site. The opening scroll on Boyride videos reads skaters, surfers, sex. The skaters and surfers are a nice mix of punk to frat boy twinks. The limited preview is accurate. Read full review

This site caters to you lovers of skater boys... biker boys... and any other type of mobile boy.. well,, at least thats what they promise in the dialogue leading into the site. Once inside, you're met with about thirty models, varying in type, from skinny skaters, to hairy "extreme sports" guys. Most of the guys are attractive, and some are action, but for the most part, its just your run of the mill pic sets, and videos. Also included is access to DudeDorm and CitiBoyz vid clips. Boy Ride promises a good selection of still photo sets and video clips of hot twinks and "bad boy" types, as well as the ability to purchase exclusive HVS/DVDs from its store featuring some of its models and lots of associate website content as a preview. It mostly delivers a solid return for all of these options, and certainly provides lots of varied content for you to enjoy. Read full review
