Interview: Mason Wyler... and his big announcement

Porn star Mason Wyler is in the new today with his announcement that he is HIV+. It wasn't exactly a willing announcement, in that an Internet blogger "outed" him about his HIV status on Wednesday after a former roommate gabbed about him.

Since his announcement he has been inundated with messages from fans and studios alike. The Sword reports that he was relegated by Next Door Studios to solo jackoff sessions after he tested HIV+, but now offers from other studios are pouring in.

GayGeek interviewed Mason last February before all of this occurred. I managed to lose the interview and didn't find it until today when I went rooting around my massively overflowing e-mailbox for it. Mason was rather terse in his interviews which is one reason why I haven't pulled out my hair searching for it. Still, it's an interesting read.

So without further ado...

Mason Wyler is the star and host of website Mason Wyler, run by Next Door Studios. He is under an exclusive contract to appear on the website until January 2011. He's hot, he's got a big name in porn, and he's definitely a porn star who is not in the business just for the money.

GayGeek: Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get involved in the sex industry, and pornographically speaking, what are you doing these days?

Mason Wyler: I got my start back in 2005 after my BF suggested it to me as an alternative to my dead end retail job. He knew I was an exhibitionist with a slut just dying to break out so he thought Porn would be perfect for me. We took some basic full body nude photographs of myself and I sent them out to almost every gay porn company on planet earth. Now it's five years later, I've shot over 200 different scenes, and I finally have my own site, MasonWyler.com, which I shoot tons of new content for on a monthly basis.

G: One of the GayGeek reviewers quipped that you appear to have worked for every company in the industry. That may be an exaggeration, but just how many porn scenes and photo shoots have you done?

Mason: I have worked for about 20 different studios and Im somewhere near 200 scenes now, give or take a few. I hopefully have 200,000 more scenes to go.

G: Are you involved in the production of Mason Wyler.com and its videos, or are you strictly a pornographic performer?

Mason: I am definitely involved in the production of masonwyler.com, it is the love child between NextDoorStudios and myself.

G: Veteran porn actor Mike Nichols famously told ChiChi Larue, "I don't act, I fuck!" In your case, how much of what we see is you playing the part of Mason Wyler, and how much is you being yourself?

Mason: I'm a terrible actor. It's my biggest downfall as a porn model. If I'm not enjoying myself it shows all over my face. I pretty much have no ability to fake it. Thankfully there are enough porn fans that get off to watching a bottom boy take it no matter what.

G: What is your relationship status, and how has your work in the porn industry impacted your romantic life (or lack thereof)?

Mason: I have a tumultuous yet passionate, on again off again relationship that has spanned over five years. Right now we are on again. I think my boyfriend is very proud of my porn career and the name I have made myself so I would say porn has been a positive impact on my romantic life.

G: On your blog you describe yourself as "driven by geekish desires". What did you mean by this?

Mason: I am a technophile and major gamer. While most gay guys I know relish hitting the mall and shopping for clothes, I prefer to head out to my local Fry's or Best Buy.

G: As a good looking young man, you have years ahead of you in the industry if you take care of yourself. All stars must fade in time though. What are your long-term career plans?

Mason: The great thing about the gay porn industry as opposed to the straight side is that our age limit is much much higher on what we find attractive. Men in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are still making it in big in my line of work. I know people will inevitably get tired of me so I figure I will just move behind the camera in one way or another.

G: Thanks for taking the time to speak with us.
