Interview: Master Steve

Steve's Dungeon is an amateur SM and bondage website where guys ranging from 18-35 are put through the ropes... literally. From spanking to suspension and tickling to cock and ball torture, Master Steve delights in introducing newcomers to the SM/BD world and in taking experienced novices to the next level.
Master Steve was kind enough to take the time out from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for GayGeek.
GayGeek: Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you enter the porn business and what are you doing now?
Master Steve: Well, I sort of stumbled into the world of porn production. I have been doing bondage and role play for over 20 years and I was always into video taping my sessions. As the web began take off in the mid 90's, I decided to find out more about websites and html code. So I set up my own personal g-rated website for friends and family. Of course, I was also thinking about developing an x-rated bondage website where I could share the fun of bondage play with other horny men and women.
Without giving it much thought, I named it Steve's Dungeon and decided to organize it by sex room. This original site was password protected, so anyone who wanted in had to contact me, verify age and I would give them access. I really enjoyed the feedback that I got from my site fans and it was also a great way of luring young boy-types over to play. Eventually I collared a boy in my dungeon and this boy kept coming back again and again. Boy Rob and I have now been together for 7 years and the fun continues.
It was Rob who convinced me to make some money with my site and turn it into a pay site. I actually resisted this for some time, since I wasn't interested in turning a fun activity into a work! But I decided it was a good thing to do, basically because of the 2257 regulations. So we worked for about a year to redesign my site (keeping it basically the same as my original idea) and my pay site opened in 2005.
As it turned out, this ended up being great timing. In July of 2005, I took an early retirement package from the computer company where I had worked for 30 years. And when the economy collapsed in 2008-2009, I was very thankful that I had my website to supplement my income. So now I'm doing it for fun, for living expenses and, of course, for buying new dungeon toys and equipment!
G: One of the interesting aspects of your website is that it focuses exclusively on bondage and SM scenes with slaves that are often inexperienced. How do you help them test and surpass their boundaries without crossing the line into unwanted abuse?
MS: I have always enjoyed introducing inexperienced slave boys to the fun and eroticism of this kind of sex play. I find that bondage, role play and all the other things I do allow me to be much more creative than would "vanilla" sex play. I always go through an interview process (see below) for every new model. This gives me a better idea of their experience level (if any), fantasies and turn ons. I specifically look for models who are really interested in this kind of sex play, so I can be reasonable confident that they will get into the experience. I give them a "safe word" if they feel the need for one. This really just gives them the confidence to expand their limits, because they know I will stop if it goes too far. And, of course, the skill and experience of a good Top Daddy (like me) plays an important role in knowing when to add another clothespin and when to start taking them off.
G: Your cock and ball torture of "CBT Boy" was terrifically done and his howls were simply exquisite. In his case, he was a model that specifically requested that you torture his "junk" in a more advanced fashion. As a master, do you find working with novice or experienced slaves to be more enjoyable? And as a porn producer, which do you find easier to film?
MS: That's a very interesting question. I was initially mainly interested in doing what I've always done - luring sexy boys into my Dungeon for some play and then seeing if they are interested in appearing on my site. I didn't really want experienced porn stars, since the major philosophy of my site is to give an intimate peek inside a real bondage play session. However, now that I've gotten a lot more experience with my site, I realized that there were certain advantages in working with more professional models. The profession porn models tend to be more reliable and into putting on a show. They know what kind of reactions play well on video, whereas some of the amateur guys sometimes tend to hold back -- the "take it like a man" syndrome. However, it is still fun to tie up a boy who has never been controlled and see what kind of response I can get from him. I have also enjoyed doing any number of straight men in my Dungeon over the years. Oh, but that's a whole other topic of conversation!
G: Describe your production process starting with your efforts to recruit models until a finished scene appears on your website?
MS: I have always met the majority of my models on the Net. I have a number of bondage hook-up sites that I browse, and I also place occasional ads on Craigslist. However, as we all know there are plenty of fakes and flakes out there, so I quickly developed a process that has worked well. The initial contact is established through exchanging emails and pictures. Then I have them give me a call so we can phone chat. If all that goes well, I then have them over for an interview with no session planned. If the interview goes well, then I set up a date for play. This process tends to weed out those who won't work out, but it certainly isn't foolproof.
When they show up for a session, I have a plan in mind for getting started based upon our interview and emails. We go over it for a bit and then get down to business. I always try to make a session a "real" as possible. I want the experience to be more like a bondage play session than a video shoot for a porn site, so I very seldom do retakes. I like to keep the flow going.
After the session is completed, my first step is to take the video and divide it up into clips. I usually get from six to nine clips out of a session. I do some processing on these clips to clean them up a bit and add titles, watermark and 2257 info. Once I have the clips created, I go through them and take snapshot images for posting on my site. Then I can start working on creating and updating the necessary pages on my site. After I have completed all the updates for my site, I put the video clips in a cue for posting. I am posting two clips every Monday and I try to include two different boys in these weekly updates.
G: If you suddenly inherited a small fortune and were able to enhance your dungeon, what are some of the features you would like to add or change?
MS: Well, if I inherited a large fortune I would buy a larger condo in San Francisco and set up a permanent play space. The main problem with my current play space is that there isn't enough room. However, living in an expensive city like San Francisco puts limits on space affordability. I've been thinking about moving my current dungeon to my other bedroom which is a larger space. However, that would take a lot of time and isn't something I could do without help. I am also looking into buying a much better video camera early this year. That will happen even without a nice inheritance. And I would tend to pay my models more AND expect more from them during the shoot.
G: When enjoying pornography, do you gravitate toward bondage/SM, or are your tastes more flexible? Do you have a favorite producer?
MS: Of course, I always gravitate towards porn with a definite edge! It doesn't have to be bondage or BDSM, but it does need to be edgy. For example, I'm currently really getting into the videos produced by Satyr Films. This is definitely edgy sex play! I particularly enjoy the "Ream His Straight Throat" and "Ream His Straight Ass" series.
And there are many others. I like the work of Reluctant Young Men, which includes bondage, tickling and milking scenes. And Machofucker, which has a simple premise, really gets a rise out of me. Match up a hot man/boy with a huge cock with a sexy bottom boy and let the sperm fly. My favorite videos from Machofucker are the ones where the bottom boy can't really handle the huge cock and really "suffers"! Love that sort of thing!
G: What are a few of the porn website you have joined, and what did you think of them?
MS: My current favorite sites are Straight Hell and Dream Boy Bondage. These sites push many of my buttons and I think they are very well done. One of the reasons I enjoy these sites is because the action they do is much more intense than what I do in my dungeon. Straight Hell has some very creative set ups. So much so that I would really enjoy finding out the details behind how the put it all together. And Ken from Dream Boy Bondage always gets extremely hot and young models and then he really works them over!
G: One last question. Is there anything you'd like to share with us about upcoming scenes on your website?
MS: In addition to investing in a better camera for my site, I am also experimenting with a new concept for my site. In my first session for this year, I paired up two of my former models (Top Boy and Pierced Boy). I started the session off with a ball torture scene where I worked over both boys' family jewels. The first one to give up ended up being the bottom boy for me and the winning boy. If I get some positive feedback about this session from my site members, I will be matching up more of my models in the coming months.
