Porn star Mason Wyler is in the new today with his announcement that he is HIV+. It wasn't exactly a willing announcement, in that an Internet blogger "outed" him about his HIV status on Wednesday after a former roommate gabbed about him.

Since his announcement he has been inundated with messages from fans and studios alike. The Sword reports that he was relegated by Next Door Studios to solo jackoff sessions after he tested HIV+, but now offers from other studios are pouring in.

GayGeek interviewed Mason last February before all of this occurred. I managed to lose the interview and didn't find it until today when I went rooting around my massively overflowing e-mailbox for it. Mason was rather terse in his interviews which is one reason why I haven't pulled out my hair searching for it. Still, it's an interesting read.

Mason Wyler is the star and host of website Mason Wyler, run by Next Door Studios. He is under an exclusive contract to appear on the website until January 2011. He's hot, he's got a big name in porn, and he's definitely a porn star who is not in the business just for the money.

GayGeek: Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get involved in the sex industry, and pornographically speaking, what are you doing these days?

Mason Wyler: I got my start back in 2005 after my BF suggested it to me as an alternative to my dead end retail job. He knew I was an exhibitionist with a slut just dying to break out so he thought Porn would be perfect for me. We took some basic full body nude photographs of myself and I sent them out to almost every gay porn company on planet earth. Now it's five years later, I've shot over 200 different scenes, and I finally have my own site, MasonWyler.com, which I shoot tons of new content for on a monthly basis.

Two months ago I posted about the dreadful mistake Republican state senator Paul Koering (MN-12) made in choosing a dinner date. He went out on the town with twink porn star and escort, Brandon Wilde.

Well, it's over. Koering lost reelection this evening with less than 45% of the vote. Even his dinner companion didn't vote for him.

It's entirely possible Koering was going to lose anyway, as procedural vote that killed a proposed state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage angered a lot of conservatives. The Sword writes that the National Organization for Marriage blanketed his district with campaign mailings about his date with his dinner companion.

In the end, perhaps it was Wilde who summed it up best. "If he doesn't wanna fight for his own rights -- as a gay man -- what makes a straight person think he cares about their rights? Point being, if you can't fight for yourself, how can you be entrusted to fight for anyone?"

Surprisingly wise words from someone who so recently tweeted about his dinner date with a sitting politician.

Update: Less than a day after he conceded the race, Koering has left the Republican party. He has endorsed the Democratic candidate and announced that his political career is over.

For the most part the straight side of the porn industry bore me, but once in a while I run across a story that gives me pause. A short autobiography of Aurora Snow is one such story.

Like so many young starlets, Aurora started in porn at age 18 to pay for bills in college. At first she did nude layouts and basic fuck scenes, which is all that she was comfortable with doing. As the money rolled in and her comfort level with porn acting increased, she started doing girl-on-girl scenes, anal scenes, threeway and group sex scenes, and so forth. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Aurora changed her major in college to business. There was money to be made in porn and she knew it.

Unlike the gay porn industry where models are usually considered "old news" after 40 scenes and rarely hit 100, the straight porn industry is much larger. There are many times more companies in straight porn than gay porn, each with their own niche and marketing strategy. As such, female performers are capable of much greater heights and can command much higher prices than their gay male equivalents. Aurora learned this as her career skyrocketed towards the top.

A bit of interesting news for y'all this week.

First, Towelroad has a fascinating interview with George Duroy from Bel Ami. He's the power behind the company and gives a rare glimpse into how one of the world's famous porn companies operates.

Second, gay.porn.truth blog is reporting that Colt Studios has filed for bankruptcy. Colt Studio was once famous for hypermasculine men like Steve Kelso. The company is currently in chapter 11 bankruptcy (restructuring) while owners John Rutherford (formerly Falcon's top director) and Tom Settle attempt to elevate the bankruptcy to chapter 7 (liquidation of the company).

According to gay.porn.truth, Colt is currently over $2 million in debt. That figure includes $1.45 million owed to the former company owner Jim French, $700,000 in unpaid taxes, $130,000 for an old personal loan made to the business, and $600,000 in various debts to companies ranging from Paladin to Fedex.
